The standings after the German GP

Superb race that this German Grand Prix filled with uncertainties from start to finish. It’s Mark Webber who wins his first career race, thus collecting 10 points. It’s a second consecutive double and the third of the season for Red Bull as Sebastian Vettel is second. Felipe Massa on Ferrari secures a podium with 3rd place. Nico Rosberg had a remarkable race, starting from 15th position to finish 4th, thus scoring 5 points. The Brawn duo is 5th and 6th with Jenson Button ahead of Rubens Barrichello. Finally, Fernando Alonso (Renault) made a great comeback to reach 7th place. Heikki Kovalainen in his MP4/24 is 8th. Sébastien Bourdais (Toro Rosso) and Kimi Räikkönen (Ferrari) retired.

In the driver standings, Button remains at the top of the championship with 68 points, 21 ahead of Vettel, the new runner-up. Webber is close behind in 3rd position with 45.5 points compared to 47. Barrichello drops to 4th place (-2) with 44 points. Everything is still open, and the battle promises to be exciting between these four drivers.

Much further, we find Massa in 5th place (+1) with 22 points, which is half as much as the driver preceding him in the standings. Jarno Trulli, having had a very poor race, sinks to 6th position and is directly threatened by Rosberg (21.5 versus 20.5 points). Alonso (+1 position) joins Timo Glock in 8th place. They are tied in points, with a tally that has stopped at 13.

From there, everything remains fixed at the bottom of the standings with Räikkönen 10th (10 points), Hamilton 11th (9 points), Heidfeld 12th (6 points), Kovalainen 13th (5 points), Buemi 14th (3 points). Bourdais and Kubica are in 15th position with 2 points.

In the constructor standings, there is no change in the hierarchy. Red Bull gains 11 new points on Brawn GP, which is still in the lead, but the gap is narrowing. Red Bull is now 19.5 points behind. Here too, the battle is just beginning. Toyota narrowly stays in 3rd place against Ferrari in 4th (34.5 versus 32 points). Williams remains in 5th, not far behind with 20.5 points. Renault in 7th is getting closer to McLaren in 6th, as there is now only a one-point difference (14 versus 13 points). BMW, Toro Rosso, and Force India remain in their pre-race positions. The Indian team firmly believed it would score its first points this German weekend.
