Hungarian GP: Bridgestone brings soft and super-soft tires

The official tire supplier had warned that the Hungarian Grand Prix would be unique. Indeed, for the second time this season since March, Bridgestone will provide teams with two similar types of tires, namely soft and super-soft.

He also warns that graining could occur, for example when the track will be green on Friday. And for good reason, this track is rarely used during the year, and the grip will be completely different between Friday morning and Sunday.

Hirohide Hamashima – Director of Bridgestone Motorsport:

The Hungaroring is an interesting circuit, especially since it isn’t used much during the year. This means that the levels of grip on Friday are likely to be very different from those encountered during the race. To decide on the setup and tire strategy, the teams will have to work hard. The phenomenon of graining will be very important and the qualifying session is crucial because overtaking is difficult. We always keep an eye on the weather, as it can get very hot. Rain is also possible, as in 2006 when Jenson Button achieved his first Formula 1 victory.

« We will bring two consecutive ranges of tires due to the slippery surface and the characteristics of the track. It’s one of the slowest circuits we will visit during the season, and the surface itself is not dynamic enough to help generate heat for the tires. The super-soft and soft tires will be brought to the teams, and these are the ranges that will allow them to generate maximum heat. »
