The Brazilian was hit by debris that seemed to come from Rubens Barrichello’s car in the final moments of Q2. It appeared to be a spring that another car may have run over, eventually striking Massa’s helmet head-on. An incredible misfortune!
He seemed to lose consciousness while in his car and ultimately crashed into the tire wall at high speed. Massa was first attended to by the medical center, then transported to a hospital in Budapest, where he is stable and conscious.
The photos taken after the accident showed that Massa’s helmet was seriously damaged by the impact, and he was suffering from bleeding whose severity is not yet known, although his condition seems reassuring.
