Felipe Massa will need to undergo surgery as it appears he is suffering from a concussion with damage sustained to the skull bone. This quite clear diagnosis comes three hours after his accident on the Hungaroring circuit in Hungary.
The Brazilian will miss tomorrow’s race after being hit on the head by debris likely belonging to Rubens Barrichello’s car.
Massa was transported to a hospital in Budapest, where he remains, and it should be noted, in a stable condition.
According to a statement from Ferrari, Massa will need to undergo surgery and will have to remain under observation in intensive care for an undetermined period of time.
« After the accident during the qualifying session of the Hungarian Grand Prix, Felipe Massa was taken to the AEK hospital in Budapest. He was conscious upon arrival at the hospital and his condition remains stable. »
« After a full medical examination, it appeared that he has a cut on his forehead, deterioration of the skull bones, and a concussion. These conditions explain his continued observation in intensive care. »
The team stated that further information will be released later in the evening.
