It was this weekend in Hungary that Toro Rosso introduced a new set on its STR4. The improvements were seen yesterday in qualifying with a very nice 11th place on the grid for Sébastien Buemi. Unfortunately, the drivers did not deliver in the race today, not because of the car, but due to their young age.
The Swiss made too many mistakes to consider a good performance and only finished 16th. As for Jaime Alguersuari, he had the luxury of finishing ahead of his teammate in 15th place. He acknowledges that it will take time for him to learn because the end of the race was very tough physically.
Jaime Alguersuari – 15th:
« I am very happy to have finished this race, but the last five laps were very physically demanding. I found it difficult to maintain the pace in the car, but I am very satisfied. 15th is not so bad, but the main goal was to complete the 70 laps without mistakes and to maintain a certain pace. I learned a lot, but I must say there are certain aspects of F1 that make me think. »
Sébastien Buemi – 16th:
« I am very disappointed with this race because I made a lot of mistakes and I am not at all happy with my performance. I don’t think the tire strategy was the right one. I lost several places at the start and got stuck in traffic. Just a bad race. The car was good, as we showed in qualifying, but today I was the one who made mistakes. The only positive thing is that the car is significantly more efficient thanks to this new package. »
Franz Tost – Team Principal:
« Congratulations to Jaime [Alguersuari] for finishing his first race, he learned a lot this weekend. That is our main goal with him. He will need two more races, after which I expect to see him in Q2. Unfortunately, Sébastien picked up debris on the right side of the front wing, damaging it and thus losing performance. We will now focus on Valencia, where we will have a new front wing that should help us improve our overall performance. »
