The organizer of the European Grand Prix, Valmor Sport, is asking the FIA to reconsider the sanction imposed on Renault so that the many fans of the French manufacturer and, of course, the Spanish driver Fernando Alonso are not deprived.
As of today, the French team is not authorized to travel to Spain in a little over three weeks because the stewards of the Hungarian GP condemned the incident during which Fernando Alonso lost his front wheel.
Renault has appealed the decision, but if nothing changes, it means that thousands of Spanish fans who had bought their tickets to see Alonso might not see the double world champion.
The decision will also hurt the race organizers, who had already announced a reduction in the number of seats for this year’s event.
Jorge Aspar Martinez, vice-president of Valmor Sport, understands the FIA prioritizing everyone’s safety on a circuit but believes that fans should not be affected by this decision.
« We think that the FIA must also consider the fans, and, as everyone knows, many of them bought tickets to see Fernando Alonso race in Valencia, » said Aspar to the EFE news agency.
« We believe that they should not be affected by this decision. »
We will closely examine the appeal verdict and are in contact with the Spanish federation, the Renault team, and Fernando Alonso. We would like to see him on the grid for the Valencia Grand Prix.
« It would be a shame for the race to proceed without him, and we are convinced that he will be able to ride even if we know it will be difficult, especially since other accidents occurred during this weekend. »
« What happened is serious, but we hope it will not affect the European Grand Prix or the fans. »
EFE also reported some words from the head of Campos Meta, Adrian Campos: « Things are not going well for the Valencia Grand Prix, and if Alonso is not present, it would be a disaster. »
