The official sponsor of Formula 1, the company LG, has defended itself against any failure of its systems during the outage that prevented viewers and the entire F1 team from seeing the times in the final minutes of the Hungarian Grand Prix qualifying.
The Q3 finale took place without any official timing on the screens, which meant that no one knew who had secured pole position for several minutes after the session.
The FOM (Formula One Management) blamed a damaged cable causing a mechanical failure, which would explain the subsequent loss of time.
According to a statement published on Wednesday: « In the final minutes of the Q3 qualifying session, the official ‘Live Timing’ system was not updating the lap times. »
« This was due to a mechanical failure of the sensors because a cable was damaged. »
« We have alert procedures for situations like these. Therefore, no data was lost, and the full results of the qualifying session were quickly established and disseminated. »
« We would like to clarify that at no point is this problem a consequence of the failure of the equipment provided by LG, the official sponsor in F1. »
