After Kimi Räikkönen and Robert Kubica, Sebastian Vettel is the latest Formula 1 driver to show interest in the world of rallying. Following his colleague, Räikkönen, who was participating in his second world rally this weekend, Vettel has shown interest in rally competition.
« It’s the first time I’ve come to a WRC rally event and it’s fascinating, » comments Vettel in the Citroën stand. The German was indeed invited by the French team for the Finnish stages. « The speeds are impressive and it’s great to be able to watch them so closely. It’s almost as fast as F1, but without going in circles and with gravel! »
« I was able to take some advice from Sébastien Loeb and I think there’s nothing better. I have a lot to do in F1, but who knows. Maybe one day I could start a WRC Rally. I would like to be able to do it soon. »
Vettel and Loeb have one thing in common: being sponsored by Red Bull. It is in this context that the German was invited this weekend by Citroën in Finland and that Loeb should soon return to Formula 1 to see a Grand Prix. The Frenchman had already tested in F1 with Renault thanks to the oil company Total and with Red Bull a year later. The Alsatian has always expressed his interest in driving in an F1 Grand Prix someday – although knowing it would be impossible. Citroën issued a statement certifying that Loeb would be in WRC at least until 2010.
