Grosjean is set to replace Piquet at Renault

Romain Grosjean is still waiting for the official confirmation of his presence at Renault as a race driver, replacing Nelson Piquet for the European Grand Prix. The team is just waiting to find out whether they are allowed to participate in this round of the Formula 1 World Championship.

Renault must face a hearing of the FIA International Court of Appeal to be held in Paris on Monday. It will rule on the race ban imposed on the French team after the Hungarian Grand Prix. It was during this race that Fernando Alonso lost his wheel, which was not fully attached.

Until the outcome of this hearing, we know that Renault is not in a position to confirm its plans for the next race, even though it has already announced that Nelson Piquet will not continue with the team. Grosjean is currently second in the GP2 standings behind Nico Hülkenberg. The Frenchman is at the top of the list to be alongside Fernando Alonso. It is even said that Grosjean already has a spot at the Enstone factory and has conducted straight-line tests.

Piquet’s departure came after a second disappointing season with the team, where he failed to score a single point. After learning about his future, Piquet launched a scathing attack on team boss Flavio Briatore, whom he called a “executioner” in a statement.
