Mixed feelings for Luca Badoer

Luca Badoer expressed somewhat mixed feelings after being called by Ferrari to replace Felipe Massa for the European Grand Prix. Although delighted with the opportunity to race with Ferrari, having been a test driver with the team since 1998, he is a bit unsettled to see Michael Schumacher give up his fight to return to the cockpit.

« Since I was a child, I have always wanted to race for Ferrari, and now I have the opportunity to do so. It’s a dream come true, » said Badoer on the official Ferrari website.

I am really sorry for Michael, because I know how much he wanted to return. I say this as a friend and fan of this great champion. We have been in contact over the past few days. On Monday evening, he called me one or two minutes after speaking with Stefano Domenicali to tell me that he would ultimately not be returning. I know he will always be ready to give me some advice.

Badoer has not had the opportunity to drive the F60 since the last time he tested was last December in Portimao. He is familiar with the cockpits and thinks it won’t take him long to get used to the new car: « Even though this year, the regulations drastically reduce the mileage for us test drivers, I have prepared myself to be ready in all circumstances. After Felipe’s accident, I intensified my program and I’m sure I won’t have any problems from this perspective. »

With this opportunity to race for Ferrari, Badoer expressed his gratitude to the management team without forgetting a prompt recovery for Massa: « My first thoughts go to Felipe. I was shocked by his accident and I am very happy about his health condition. I wish him the best and hope he returns to the track as soon as possible. »

« I also want to thank both Luca di Montezemolo and Stefano Domenicali for this opportunity to race a single-seater. I will give 100% for them and for all Ferrari fans. »
