After being dismissed from Scuderia Toro Rosso, Sébastien Bourdais hopes to make a return to Formula 1 in a few months with one of the new teams on the 2010 grid. Three new teams are gearing up to enter the championship. The arrival of a fourth team is highly likely with the departure of the German automobile manufacturer BMW-Sauber.
Toro Rosso has decided to replace Bourdais with Jaime Alguersuari. The Frenchman now finds himself without a race seat for 2010 but insists that he will not give up on his quest to find one: “I aspire to find a place in F1,” he told the newspaper *L’équipe*. “Since there are no in-season tests, I can be attractive to new teams.”
Bourdais scored points in Australia and Monaco this year. The teams Campos Meta, Manor GP, and USF1 are all lined up to join the grids, as for BMW-Sauber, they are looking for a new buyer: « Heidfeld and Kubica will also be on the market, » continued Bourdais, admitting that this could complicate his search.
« Some of the new teams have technical capabilities, but they don’t have money… that’s what makes the difference. »
If the worst happens and Bourdais does not return to Formula 1, where will he spend his 2010 year? « I am under contract with Peugeot until the end of this year, » he explains regarding his duties in the context of the Le Mans race. « For next year? I don’t know, but they seemed very happy with my work at Le Mans this year. In the United States? I have always had a contact with my former team (Newman-Haas), but the problem is that they need money to run the car. It requires 5 million dollars (approximately 3.5 million euros), which is not easy to find at the moment! »
