Luca Badoer, Ferrari’s test driver, will have the opportunity to familiarize himself with the F60 before his return to Formula 1 this weekend. Indeed, he will be driving the single-seater for promotional purposes at Fiorano this Monday and Tuesday. The 38-year-old Italian will be the official replacement for Felipe Massa for the European Grand Prix in Valencia but has little experience with this year’s car due to the ban on testing during the season.
Ferrari specified that Badoer will not participate in a test but will drive the car for promotional purposes only. The Italian will be limited in terms of tires as Bridgestone is only providing ultra-hard tires intended for a promotional event. He will not be able to exceed 100 km of running, the limit accepted for all teams in a day.
A statement on the team’s website announces: « Although Felipe is still in his recovery phase in Brazil, the Scuderia will resume work after a two-week break, agreed upon with the other teams. Over the next three days, the team will focus on preparations for the next two races, in Spain and Belgium, which will take place on the last two weekends of August. »
Next to Kimi Räikkönen, Luca Badoer will be racing as an official driver for the Scuderia. Today and tomorrow, Luca will be the subject of a mini film made for promotional purposes behind the F60 and on the Fiorano track.
Badoer has the chance to drive for Ferrari, after more than nine years of loyal service as a test driver. This decision was directly influenced by Michael Schumacher since the German was forced to abandon his idea of returning to competition due to a persistent neck injury.
The seven-time world champion completed a day of testing in a Ferrari F2007, belonging to the Clienti department, as part of his preparation. The team was denied a request to drive the F60, which could also have been used by Badoer.
