European GP: A publicity stunt to aid the purchase of BMW?

The F1 world will no longer watch BMW-Sauber race in the same way since the German car manufacturer announced its departure from the sport. It was a big surprise because until the end of last season, the team was at the top. This season, the difficulties were indeed present, but no one imagined such a dramatic outcome.

For now, a possible acquisition has still not been finalized, and the primary interest of the upcoming races, such as the European GP, is to promote BMW to attract buyers. It is therefore important that the team and the two drivers, Nick Heidfeld and Robert Kubica, fully commit themselves to trying to achieve good performances.

Robert Kubica – Racing driver

I really appreciate the Valencia circuit. I like the stop-and-go character that the track exudes. In Valencia, you have a lot of long straights followed by tight corners, then long straights again. This means there are sudden brakes. It was very hot last year between the concrete walls, and there isn’t much air. These conditions are very tough on the car’s cooling system. Last year, I had a good race in Valencia.

Nick Heidfeld – Racing Driver

« Valencia is a street circuit, but it doesn’t look like one. In fact, it’s one of those fairly modern tracks. You’re not up against buildings, and there are runoff areas. I’m very eager to see what effects the latest modifications will have on our car. Valencia is a big city, and I’m looking forward to going back mainly for the gastronomy.

Mario Theissen – Director of BMW Motorsport:

« It is clear that we are all disappointed with the decision to withdraw from Formula 1. The team has reached nearly unprecedented heights in just three years, and we would have been thrilled to show that this year’s poor results were just a glitch. Now, our work focuses on the months ahead. While efforts continue behind the scenes to find a solution for the team, everyone is aware that achieving good race performances is the best way to advertise. We want to return to a good level on fast circuits. The packages for Valencia and Singapore will be used as planned. »
