His teammate is riding the same wave as he also had a great race in Hungary. More than Hamilton, he is delighted with his car because it has all the new specifications. The idea is to do the same on the Valencia circuit where Kovalainen will aim for points.
Lewis Hamilton – Race Car Driver:
« It’s great to be back in business after a four-week break. I’m still riding the high from my win in Hungary and I hope to maintain this momentum during the Valencia weekend. Our updates on the new car will surely help us. It’s a very demanding circuit, the kind of place that punishes even the smallest mistake. It’s very narrow and relatively slow, so it should suit our package. As we discovered last year, it’s also very difficult to overtake, but with our KERS, Mercedes-Benz has proven that anything can happen. This weekend, I’m once again expecting good things in the race. »
Heikki Kovalainen – Race Driver
« After driving in Hungary with a completely revised single-seater, it is very encouraging to feel the progress the team has made in developing the MP4-24. We now have a car that is much easier to drive when pushed to its limits. I am really looking forward to the European Grand Prix, which I hope will suit us as much as the Hungaroring. We should score big points. After the summer break, I think all the teams are really looking forward to the second half of the season. I believe there is real potential for the other races as far as we are concerned. »
Martin Whitmarsh – Team Principal:
« We had four weeks of break to enjoy Lewis [Hamilton]’s victory in Budapest. It is very important to maintain this momentum by winning this weekend’s race. We have worked hard to bring new improvements to the car in Spain and the whole team is motivated after this recent victory. I have no doubt about our capabilities starting from Friday’s practice. This Grand Prix also marks the team’s 250th race with Mercedes-Benz as a partner. It’s nice to have achieved this victory target in this challenging season. »
