Such a beautiful period could not continue forever. This weekend in Valencia, Red Bull fell heavily from its high cloud. The team scores no points in the constructors’ and drivers’ championships. Worse, Sebastian Vettel uses two engines. The situation gets tense tonight…
Mark Webber could have secured the minimum, but he wasn’t fast enough and finished just outside the points in 9th place. His teammate, Vettel, was unlucky not to be refueled at the right moment, which cost him a lot of time. In the end, his engine failed for the second time that weekend. Both drivers are now back in 3rd and 4th place in the standings.
Mark Webber – 9th:
« No points for us today, which is the first time in a long time. I wasn’t fast enough today, it was a tough ordeal. I struggled all weekend and I think I got the result I deserve, which is no points, unfortunately. We were a bit unlucky in the pits with Lewis’s (Hamilton) stop coming out ahead. The stops weren’t good, it wasn’t the best day for us. But we will refocus and think about Spa. »
Sebastian Vettel – Retirement:
« The biggest problem today was the first stop, we were unable to put fuel in the car, so I had to come back again. The race was already lost at that point, but a few laps later, I had an engine problem and had to retire. It’s not good. In the championship, I will fight until the last breath, but it’s not good to abandon when you are chasing and want to get more points than your opponent. »
Christian Horner – Team Principal:
« A disappointing day. A pit stop that didn’t work for Sebastian [Vettel], followed by an engine failure, which is the second of the weekend, is very costly. Unfortunately, with Mark [Webber], we were not fast enough today. He kept Jenson (Button) behind him for a long time, but Jenson was too fast. Mark, unfortunately, wasn’t quick enough to keep him behind. »
