Red Bull Racing could be powered by Mercedes in 2010

The transfer season is obviously underway, but more than the drivers, it’s all the structures that are being revised. Thus, Red Bull Racing has been looking for an engine supplier for the 2010 season. The energy drink team, currently equipped by Renault, might choose another engine supplier as early as the end of the season.

Considering the preparation for the next season, which of course involves designing the new car, Red Bull has decided to launch a call for tenders to the main engine manufacturers in F1 to power its RB6. Renault powers the team but also provides technical elements and money thanks to the oil company Total. However, the V8 engines from Viry-Chatillon are no longer favorites, and Mercedes-Benz is increasingly courting the red bull.

The recent engine failures on Vettel’s car are causing some anxiety for Renault, which is nevertheless trying to convince the Milton Keynes team by slightly reducing its prices. However, Mercedes is keeping a close watch, and according to rumors, could offer an even lower price. Christian Horner is not in a hurry for now and is waiting to study the offers at his disposal: « We still have plenty of time. Renault is doing a very good job for us, showing good service, but we are not in a rush. » comments the director of Red Bull Racing.

If Red Bull Racing were to choose Mercedes-Benz engines, Renault could nevertheless be transferred to the twin Toro Rosso cars, which are currently equipped with Ferrari engines. 2010 therefore already promises to be extremely busy from a structural standpoint.
