The Toyota team is going through a rough patch and it is their duty to bounce back. After an almost disastrous European Grand Prix where the drivers failed to score points, the Spa-Francorchamps race promises to be very different. First of all, the weather will not be the same, with cooler and likely wet conditions expected. The tracks of Valencia and Spa are completely different. In all these cases, Toyota has the opportunity to achieve a small performance.
The drivers, Jarno Trulli and Timo Glock, are ready to take on the challenge even though their future with the Japanese automaker is not guaranteed, nor is the team’s presence itself in 2010. For now, maximum focus on this unusual race.
Jarno Trulli – Race Car Driver
« Spa is a fantastic circuit and certainly my favorite in Formula 1. It is a true driver’s circuit, which suits me perfectly. There are almost all types of corners, so on a lap you are always on alert, and I like that. Every time you drive at Spa, there is something astonishing, but I must say that securing pole position is special. It’s disappointing not to have scored points last weekend in Valencia, but it’s a different style compared to Spa. The competition in F1 is particularly intense, but we fight hard, and it would be good to achieve a good result in such a special place. We will push as hard as we can to get the best possible result. »
Timo Glock – Racing Driver
« Along with Monaco, Spa is my favorite circuit. Driving a Formula 1 car is a fantastic experience and it’s one of the best feelings you can have in this sport. Even though I love the track, I have some frustrating memories here, like being taken out by another driver on the warm-up lap in 2007 and being penalized last year. There’s a big element of luck! Last year, the weather was a major factor in the race, and rain always seems possible at Spa. Still, I’m fast here in both wet and dry conditions and I’m looking forward to this weekend. »
Pascal Vasselon – Technical Director of Chassis:
« Spa is a truly spectacular circuit, not only for the drivers but for anyone who has the privilege of attending the race, particularly at Eau Rouge. The forces generated by this corner are extreme, especially on the suspensions. It will be interesting to see how the 2009 cars behave; even if there is less downforce, we now have more grip with the slick tires. Spa is a challenging circuit for almost all components, for example the brakes. We will be using soft and medium tires. We have a lot of experience with these tires and have a clear idea of what to expect. »
