Belgian GP: New Risky Race for Brawn GP

High-risk weekend for the Brawn GP team. The F1 world stops this week at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit, nestled in the Ardennes. The weather is unfavorable. The most unfavorable aspect for the English team is the tires in cool weather. And it will be cool this weekend. They are trying to reassure by stating that they have made progress in this regard.

No matter, Brawn GP just came off a victory, the 7th of the season, but most importantly the 1st for Rubens Barrichello, who still has his head in the clouds because his performance was so beautiful. For Jenson Button, after making the effort to win several races at the beginning of the season, he now just needs to manage his lead. And lead he has over his current runner-up, who is none other than his teammate…

Jenson Button – Racing Driver

« Spa is one of my favorite circuits and has a layout that offers everything you could want as a driver. It is one of the fastest and most challenging circuits in the world, with bumps, fast corners, and long straights that combine to provide real sensations, just like Suzuka and Silverstone. It’s also a very beautiful circuit in the forest, even though the weather can be unpredictable! This can play a big role in the race weekend, even in summer, so you have to be ready to react. The unpredictability is part of the excitement of a race at Spa. Eau Rouge is always a legendary corner. I’ve been through some tough races recently, but the car was very nice in Valencia and the pace was there when I was able to drive without traffic during the race. So we feel very motivated with a lot of anticipation. »

Rubens Barrichello – Race Car Driver

« Valencia was a fantastic weekend and the memories will stay with me for a long time. Being in the shoes of a winner feels great! I always knew that we had the car, the pace, and the faith to achieve a victory this season. I’ve had a few days to relax and reflect, but I want to get back in the car at Spa as soon as possible! For me, Spa is undoubtedly one of the best circuits in the world and I love racing here. The lap is really long and fast with great corners, and it gives you a fantastic feeling in a Formula 1 car. Experience is a key factor and you can gain a lot of time if you get the car settings right. You need to be precise in your program to make the most of track time during practice and qualifying. We’ve gained some momentum after the result in Valencia, and we know we need to ensure strong performances in the upcoming races. »

Ross Brawn – Team Principal:

« Our return to form in Valencia and the well-deserved victory for Rubens [Barrichello] gave everyone on the team a boost for the final part of the season. Looking ahead to the race at Spa, it will be another challenge with a very different circuit and changing weather conditions. Even though we believe we now have a better understanding of our tire issues, the low temperatures at Spa will not work in our favor. We will have a testing program on Friday to validate and build our weekend. Spa ranks as one of the great classics, loved by drivers, engineers, and fans, which is why we hope to put on a good show. »
