Friday: A positive day for Renault and Grosjean!

Renault completed its first working day at Spa-Francorchamps with free practice sessions in preparation for the Belgian Grand Prix. In turn, both drivers of the French team delivered a good performance in one of the two free practice sessions.

This morning, it was Fernando Alonso who did the best on a wet track, whereas Romain Grosjean is far less accustomed. Their morning programs were still disrupted for both of them. In the afternoon, the Frenchman outperformed the Spaniard while the evaluation of the two types of tires was the main concern. The goal is to be good in qualifying tomorrow.

Fernando Alonso – 3rd and 14th:

« We did quite a few laps today, especially in P2. In P1, we were delayed by the rain and we worked on the tires this afternoon. We are happy with the car’s balance at the moment. Tomorrow, the qualifying session will be very important because we would like to be competitive this weekend. Therefore, we need to start from a good position on the grid.

Romain Grosjean – 13th and 5th:

« The day was very interesting because it allowed me to drive on both wet and dry surfaces. That’s normal at Spa! Once again, I was greatly helped by Fernando, who shared his data with me. This allowed me to see where I could gain time. This afternoon, I evaluated the two types of tires available to us this weekend and completed over 30 laps. I think we are well prepared for tomorrow. »

Pat Symonds – Executive Director of Engineering:

« The day was productive. This morning, the rain disrupted the schedule, but it gave us the opportunity to evaluate the car on a wet track and to run Romain in these conditions. This afternoon, we focused on studying the tires, which are so important on this track. I am satisfied with the progress made and the balance found. From a general standpoint, a positive Friday. »
