Red Bull Racing successfully sees both its cars in the top ten, after a rather difficult and troublesome start to the weekend at Spa. With Sebastian Vettel having only two engines for the last six races and Mark Webber having a new engine for the qualifying.
With only two Renault engines at their disposal for the remainder of the season, Red Bull has initiated a development of a conservation method for Vettel, such as using engines already used during test sessions. However, with both cars starting from the eighth and ninth positions on the grid for the Belgian Grand Prix, Vettel is the disappointed man of these qualifications due to an error on his part.
Sebastian Vettel – 14th and 8th:
« It was an interesting session, but not the best for us. Tomorrow, eighth and ninth on the grid will be tough. Unfortunately, I made a mistake on my last flying lap in Q3. I lost the rear of the car in turn 14, which leads onto the straight, and so lost all the speed, hence there was no point in finishing the lap. The results are quite a surprise today, I don’t think anyone expected Fisichella on pole.
Mark Webber – 20th and 9th:
« It was a strange session, we expected to be more competitive than that. Fisichella on pole! A big day for them, but we were surprised by that. Many drivers were too fast for us, it shows that you never know how it’s going to play out. Tomorrow should be a very interesting race. We had to change the engine before qualifying, but it would have no impact on our result and we were quite confident before the session. We put in a new engine which we had to do some checks on like the one we used this morning, but it seems to be fine. »
Christian Horner – Team Principal:
« A Q3 different from the usual, I bet none of the bookmakers predicted that one! Our drivers had a very solid performance, and the effect of fuel is quite significant here, so we are looking forward to seeing the fuel loads of our competitors. Congratulations to Force India for their first pole position. We are excited for the race, which should be a very exciting race tomorrow. »
