Schumacher extends his consultancy contract with Ferrari

Michael Schumacher, seven-time Formula 1 world champion, has accepted a three-year extension of his contract with Scuderia Ferrari. He thus remains involved with the team as a consultant and has held this position since his retirement from sports at the end of the 2006 season. The German has remained very close to the legendary manufacturer since he joined them in 1996 as a race driver.

« Yesterday, Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo and I agreed to extend our cooperation for an additional three years, » stated Schumacher on his website. « I am very happy and have always loved being part of the Ferrari family. The name Ferrari symbolizes passion, quality, and sport for me. »

Schumacher added that he will focus more on the development of Ferrari’s road vehicles after playing a major role in several of the brand’s recent models: “We have agreed that I will increasingly contribute within the GT department, the area of road cars,” Schumacher continued.

« I really enjoyed taking part in the development of the Ferrari California, the 430, and the new 458 from Scuderia Italia, which we will unveil next Tuesday at the Frankfurt Motor Show. I am eagerly looking forward to participating in future projects. »
