Report: Alonso redirects Renault for the end of the season

Renault leaves Monza with the four points secured by Fernando Alonso thanks to a 5th place finish. Romain Grosjean, on the other hand, ranks 15th. Overall, it is a positive result as Renault catches up to BMW for 8th place in the standings.

The start was difficult for the two drivers of the French manufacturer as the Spaniard lost many positions and Grosjean got caught up in collisions in the first corners. His R29 was mainly damaged in the front wing area. The result of his race can be explained by these facts. See you in two weeks in Asia in Singapore to follow the title-holding Renault team in the city-state.

Fernando Alonso – 5th:

« I am very happy with today’s result, even though I was initially a bit disappointed with the performance of the KERS system. I maintained a good pace throughout the race, we had the right strategy, and the car performed very well. Finishing 5th is a good thing. The goal for the end of the season will now be to get on the podium, or even to secure a victory. »

Romain Grosjean – 15th:

« I’m disappointed with today’s race. I had a very bad start and I will work to understand why. I was hit in the first chicane and the car was slightly damaged. From then on, the rest of my race was difficult and I couldn’t get into the points. My mission now is to keep improving, and to get closer to Fernando in qualifying. »

Flavio Briatore – General Manager:

« We finally had a competitive car today. The four points scored by Fernando are the result of a flawless race. Romain, meanwhile, continues his learning. »

Pat Symonds – Executive Director of Engineering:

« Our two cars drove a bit on their own today, which is often the case in Monza when you rely on a one-stop strategy. Fernando was solid, finishing the race at the pace needed to finish 5th, which is quite consistent with our performance level. Romain’s car was damaged in the first corner and he was lucky because his tire was quite cut. This compromised the car’s performance and his race was difficult from that point on. »

Rémi Taffin – Track Coordinator Renault F1 Team:

« We scored four points today, which is quite positive. We didn’t get off to a good start, and that may have deprived us of an even better result. On the engine side, we were using the V8s from Spa-Francorchamps, and we might use them again in Singapore. It’s a fairly comfortable situation, which allows us to choose between new or used engines for the next Grand Prix. We hope to gain in performance and aim for the podium in the upcoming races.
