The Renault team will have a race car almost devoid of sponsors because for the first practice sessions of the Singapore Grand Prix taking place today, they have removed all the ING and Mutua Madrilena stickers. The banking giant ING, the team’s main sponsor, and the insurance company Mutua Madrileña announced on Thursday the termination of their contracts with immediate effect due to the cheating scandal Renault has just gone through.
The Dutch financial company had planned to leave Renault at the end of the season but decided to withdraw with four races remaining this season, stating in a press release that they were deeply disappointed with the turn of events, especially given the success of this sponsorship.
Renault did not waste any time after the two announcements as the cars, the garage, and the motorhome had already removed all traces of ING and Mutua Madrileña before free practice 1 began in Singapore. Mutua Madrileña indicated that it would continue to sponsor the Spanish driver Fernando Alonso, while ING’s commitment to on-ground advertising would remain until the end of the year.
