The Brazilian driver was supposed to keep his gearbox for two more Grand Prix, as the regulations stipulate that each gearbox used must last for four weekends.
After his incident in Italy two weeks ago where smoke was coming out of the BGP001, Barrichello wanted to keep his gearbox. Ultimately, the Brazilian decided to change it after this morning’s Free Practice. Therefore, he will face a 5-place grid penalty from his recorded position this evening.
