Fernando Alonso was officially announced as leaving for Ferrari a few hours ago. In order to respond to this (bad) news, the Renault team published a statement on its website. On one hand, Renault wishes the Spaniard well, and on the other, announces the date when the 2010 drivers will be known; namely, next week.
The statement only implies the replacement of Fernando Alonso for the 2010 season. This indirectly means the officialization of Romain Grosjean for the next season. Therefore, the French driver will learn, just like us, who his 2010 teammate will be next week.
Renault F1 Team will make an announcement next week regarding the driver who will replace Fernando Alonso within the team, states the release.
Fernando Alonso has given his support to Robert Kubica to replace him. However, Renault has not forgotten about their favorite Spaniard:
Following yesterday’s announcement, Renault F1 Team wishes Fernando Alonso good luck for 2010 and beyond, as he begins a new phase in his career with a new team.
The particularly close relationship between Renault and Alonso was one of the most fruitful in Formula One history, culminating in consecutive victories in the drivers’ and constructors’ world championships in 2005 and 2006.
The objective of the team and Fernando Alonso is now to finish this season on a very positive note with good results for these last three races.
Fernando Alonso’s interview will be published shortly.
