Mark Webber will not participate in the qualifying session and will have to start the Japanese Grand Prix from the pit lane after damaging his car during Free Practice 3 on Saturday morning at Suzuka.
Webber went off at the second turn, Degner, towards the end of his first stint and went straight into the barriers. Although the accident didn’t seem too serious, the impact damaged his Red Bull Racing chassis far beyond initial assessments, meaning he cannot take part in qualifying.
This also means that his team will need to build a replacement car tomorrow, before the race. The fact that he needs it requires him to start from the pit lane.
