Following Felipe Massa’s statements (see the article here) claiming an injustice regarding the winner of the 2008 championship, Hamilton responded to the English press, not taking the Brazilian’s words too seriously. According to Massa, Piquet’s deliberate crash in Singapore last year cost him the world title, which he lost by one point to Hamilton.
Currently in Japan for the Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton told the press that he wasn’t taking Massa’s comments to heart but was surprised that he brought them up again.
« The first thing I have to say is that he [Massa] is recovering well and seems to be getting better and better and returning to how he was before, » commented the McLaren driver yesterday. « Regarding his statements, honestly, I can’t say much; it was a difficult season and many things happened and there were many ‘if it had been…’ so I am quite surprised to hear him say that. »
« I think we had a fair battle during the season. I’m just a little surprised but it doesn’t matter, I don’t feel targeted, really. »
