As Sébastien Buemi scores two points this Sunday, October 18th, at the Brazilian Grand Prix, the Toro Rosso team admits that it expected more points given its incredible performance level since Friday’s practice. The last two days unfolded in unusual conditions, and this Sunday was dry. Logically, Toro Rosso scores only two points, which is a favorable development since the summer.
As for Jaime Alguersuari, he experienced difficult moments in the middle of the pack and finished dead last in the 14th position due to a high number of retirements. He still has one race left, in Abu Dhabi, to convince.
Sébastien Buemi – 7th:
« It was a very difficult race for me because every lap was tough, but coming away with points for the first time since China is a good result for me and the team. We did a good job today. My start was difficult because I got sandwiched between Kubica and Rosberg in the first corner. They got past me, which was frustrating. However, we didn’t have a particularly strong pace in the race, so we need to look at the data to try and understand why. I have mixed feelings because after our performance on Friday, I was hoping to finish in the top five. Now we can look forward to the race in Abu Dhabi where we need to try to build on this result to keep moving forward. »
Jaime Alguersuari – 14th:
« I’m happy to have finished the race and I feel like I’m still making progress every time I hit the track. My start was quite good and I managed to slot in behind Kobayashi. But I was on the wrong side of the circuit and other cars passed me as I was slow on the straight. After that, I got stuck in traffic and from there, my race was tough. When I had a clear track, I was able to be faster and overall, I feel like I’ve made progress this weekend. »
Mekies Laurent – Chief Engineer
« It’s good to be back in the points with Sébastien, but we were hoping for a bit more today and now we have to understand why we were unable to reproduce our Friday pace. As for Jaime, he had a tough first part of the race, battling with many cars. He had to manage the traffic. He got caught in the congestion but on the soft tires towards the end, his lap times were quite competitive. »
