Abu Dhabi GP: Grosjean’s last GP with Renault?

Last race of the regular season and perhaps the last race for Frenchman Romain Grosjean with the Renault team. While Robert Kubica is confirmed to race for the French manufacturer in 2010, the second driver has not yet been chosen. Grosjean has probably been somewhat disappointing since the end of summer. He hasn’t scored any points, and his place for next year is far from guaranteed.

This Abu Dhabi Grand Prix comes at the perfect time to make an impression and be at the heart of the discussions during the off-season. He says it himself, the Yas Marina Circuit could work in his favor as none of the drivers competing this weekend know the track. They are all on the same level in this regard. Verdict: Starting tomorrow with the first practice sessions.

Romain, did you enjoy your first experience at Interlagos?

« It’s a superb circuit, very demanding for the drivers. However, with the variable weather conditions we’ve experienced, it was difficult for me to know the car’s limits on the track and to find the ideal set-up. I had a good start to the race, but I couldn’t get my tires up to temperature quickly enough. So I lacked grip in the first part of the race and lost a few places. I was more comfortable with the car towards the end of the race, but it was then too late to come back and gain positions. »

What are you expecting from the Yas Marina Circuit?

« It is certain that this will be a new adventure for everyone and I am very curious to discover this much-talked-about circuit. I have seen photos of the track, it is very impressive. The layout is also interesting: it features long straights and I hope it will offer overtaking opportunities. I also think that this Grand Prix will remind us of urban races with the tall buildings and yachts in the harbor.

What are your goals for this final race of the season?

« As it’s a new circuit, I think this race should be a bit easier for me because all the drivers will have to learn the track. My goals are to try to match Fernando’s times, to have a good qualifying session and, hopefully, to be able to score some points. »
