Friday: Toro Rosso has the resources to do well

As in Japan, the Toro Rosso drivers are achieving very good tests, but this time on the new Yas Marina track in Abu Dhabi. The small Scuderia has experienced a favorable evolution during this season, thanks in particular to Sébastien Buemi who is proving to be a talented driver. It is, in fact, the Swiss who is delivering the best performances today compared to his teammate, Jaime Alguersuari.

Buemi is ranked 6th in both sessions and it’s a very good sign for the rest of the weekend, especially since the Spaniard, Alguersuari, achieved the 9th fastest time this morning before dropping in the afternoon. Both drivers agree that the circuit was much more pleasant in the evening in Abu Dhabi when the temperature drops at the same time as the sun on the horizon.

Sébastien Buemi – 6th and 6th:

This new circuit has some interesting features we are not used to, like the tunnel at the pit exit. It’s a pleasant sensation to drive in broad daylight and gradually enter into darkness. This morning, it was a bit difficult, but we improved the car in the afternoon, so I’m satisfied. It’s important to consider that there’s a huge difference on the track between the first and second sessions. It’s much faster in the evening when it’s cooler. It was a bit challenging to make the tires work, especially the soft ones, but apart from that, the car isn’t too bad. Now, we need to see what we can do for tomorrow, as the qualifications will be important.

Jaime Alguersuari – 9th and 19th:

I enjoyed driving this new circuit. There is nothing delicate about it, and it reminds me of the Valencia track in some parts. This morning, I discovered the track and also had to get used to an F1 car because last weekend, I was driving in another series. The first session went pretty well, as did the afternoon, except for a small problem with the car towards the end of the session. Tire degradation doesn’t seem to be an issue. During free practice 2, the track naturally had more grip and was generally faster, aided by the fact that it was cooler in the darkness.
