Mirko Bortolotti will drive for Scuderia Toro Rosso in Formula 1 during the Jerez tests next month, between December 1st and 3rd. These tests are part of the ‘young drivers’ program similar to Daniel Ricciardo for Red Bull.
The 19-year-old Italian will likely drive the STR4 on the second day of testing, while his compatriot from the Red Bull ‘young drivers’ program, Brendon Hartley, could be driving on the other two days. Bortolotti has already tested for Ferrari after winning the Italian F3 championship in 2008. He had set an unofficial lap record at Fiorano behind the wheel of the F2008.
Shortly after his tests with Ferrari in 2008, he signed a contract with Red Bull to join the ‘young drivers’ program. Bortolotti finished fourth in the Formula 2 championship this season with one win under his belt, and also finished on the podium at the F3 Euro Series finale in Hockenheim (Germany).
