Bertrand Baguette, Formula Renault 3.5 Series champion, will make his F1 debut next month by participating in a test session for the Renault team. The Belgian driver will have the opportunity to drive a Renault on December 1st at the Jerez circuit.
« It will be a first for me,” Baguette declared. « It was my childhood dream coming true and, at the same time, it is a logical outcome with all the races I have participated in. It’s thanks to Renault that I was able to get into a single-seater, by winning a ‘young drivers’ program set up by Renault in Belgium.”
« Since then, I have driven many Renault single-seaters, from the Formula Renault 1.6 to the Formula Renault 3.5, including the Formula Renault 2.0. Driving the R29 used in Formula 1 is fantastic! The first laps in F1 must be truly incredible. It’s the most powerful car, with phenomenal cornering speed. »
« I have everything to learn, not just the car itself, but also a new environment, a large number of new parameters, a different way of working. The only thing I will be familiar with is the Jerez circuit! »
Baguette is preparing for this test day with tailored physical training. Additionally, he will visit the Renault factory in Enstone a few days before December 1st for a briefing on the test program.
« The most important thing for me is not to achieve the fastest possible lap time, » he added. « The goal of this day will be to work hard with the team and to successfully carry out the testing program that the Renault F1 Team will define with seriousness and professionalism. »
Rather than my pure speed, it will be my ability to analyze the car’s performance and my communication with team members that will be measured. I will have to take things step by step with caution. It’s a fantastic opportunity to conduct tests for a team as prestigious as the Renault F1 Team.
