Saturday: Hispania Racing Team has already won!

HRT (Hispania Racing Team) will start tomorrow with its two single-seaters. The team sees this participation in the F1 World Championship as a victory. Just a few days ago, the drivers were not determined and the structure was threatening to close its doors.

Today, Senna and Chandhok were both able to complete laps with the HRT-01 and will participate in the first race of the season tomorrow. The goal will be to finish the Grand Prix, regardless of performance.

Bruno Senna – 22nd and 23rd:

« It’s certainly a detail to drive today for other cars that have already done hundreds or thousands of kilometers of testing… For now, we only have 26 laps of experience…. We have already learned a lot and we will continue like this for some time and with each completed lap. So it is with joy that I congratulate the mechanics for their work. We will participate in HRT’s first race tomorrow. »

Karun Chandhok – 24th and 24th:

« I still can’t believe it: we will be on the starting grid tomorrow. It wasn’t very realistic to think about it this morning and we weren’t sure about participating in the qualifying sessions either. For me, I only did an installation lap and then with the car I was able to finish just a few tenths behind my teammate in qualifying. It’s great. I think I’m the only driver in F1 history to have only taken part in qualifying and still be able to start. »

Colin Kolles – Director:

« We have stayed awake for 38 hours to get our two single-seaters running. It was a real technical challenge, having never driven the single-seater before. This race will be a test. And it’s already a huge success to be here with our two cars. Starting Monday, we will go back home with important data and we hope to make quick progress. We focused on reliability and safety first, and then performance will come. A historic day awaits the team tomorrow. »
