The McLaren MP4-26 officially launched and innovative!

McLaren-Mercedes has, in turn, unveiled its new creation. On Friday morning in Berlin, dozens of spectators and journalists gathered near the Vodafone center to officially kick off the new season for the English team. Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button were, of course, present.

Such an event, a spot was reserved in the center of the enclosure and the mechanics, numbering three, gradually assembled the MP4-26 in front of the public’s eyes; thus revealing innovative technical details and important features.

In parallel, a video was presented on the Internet to visualize the McLaren in 3D. You can also view it by clicking here.

Very innovative and original in its design, this McLaren is equipped with U-shaped sidepods (air intake of the sidepods). The air intake is thus wider on the outside than on the inside. The objective is to better direct the airflow towards the rear wing and increase the efficiency of the diffuser.

The engine cover is also revised, featuring a dual intake: one to cool the engine and the other to direct air towards the diffuser. You can also notice a much longer nose than on the previous single-seater.

Finally, a system identical to the Lotus Renault should allow the McLaren to have an exhaust exit starting from the front sidepods.

The new 2011 Formula 1, the MP4-26, will make its first laps starting Tuesday in Jerez. Only Force India, HRT, and Virgin will have to officially present their F1 cars.
