Like all the other teams, Ferrari ran both its drivers on intermediate tires during the second practice session—Alonso and Massa having completed only a few laps in the first session. However, the reds faced challenges getting the intermediate tires up to temperature and making them last the distance as well. This rain-marred testing day will give the engineers and drivers some work, as Alonso believes they will need to improvise a bit for the qualifying session tomorrow and the race on Sunday.

The Lotus Renault team did not have a very productive day, because even though Bruno Senna and Vitaly Petrov were able to test the wet and intermediate tires, there is still work to be done from an aerodynamic perspective on the R31 to improve the overall performance of the car. Both LRGP drivers also hope to have a rain-free day tomorrow to test things and work on the setups of their cars for the race.

Like its rivals, Force India had little track time for its drivers today - even though Paul di Resta, who was discovering the circuit, managed to complete more laps than Adrian Sutil to find a good rhythm. Both men attempted to fit supersoft tires at the end of the day but were unsuccessful as the track was still too wet. They therefore expect a busy day tomorrow to prepare for qualifying and the race.

Virgin took advantage of this first day of testing to try out some parts that will be on next year's car. Glock experienced suspension problems while Jérôme D'Ambrosio was not satisfied with the overall balance of his car. This will need to be improved for tomorrow.

Nonetheless, Daniel Ricciardo enjoyed his day, which allowed him to gain experience in these challenging conditions.

Even though the rain made an appearance today at the Yeongam circuit, the Toro Rosso team drivers, Sébastien Buemi and Jaime Alguersuari, are optimistic because they realized they were quite competitive with the intermediate tires - even though it is always difficult to have a clear idea of the hierarchy on Fridays as teams test different things. For his debut with the STR6, Jean-Eric Vergne was not able to drive a lot - only 9 laps covered, but he was still thrilled with the experience and looks forward to driving this car again in Abu Dhabi.

Like many drivers, Pérez and Kobayashi didn't run much this morning due to the heavy rains that were falling on the Yeongam circuit in South Korea. The two Sauber drivers made up for it in the afternoon, but the Swiss team's car doesn't work well with the intermediate tires provided by Pirelli. They are hoping for drier weather for the rest of the weekend.

Due to not being able to do much driving today in South Korea because of the rain, Team Lotus was still able to work a bit on the adjustments of its engines to prepare for tomorrow's qualifying session and Sunday's race. Like its rivals during the two practice sessions today, it did little driving in the rain as the rest of the weekend is expected to be dry.

On the still damp track of the Yeongam circuit, it was the two McLaren drivers who showed the most speed, confirming the good form displayed by the English single-seater last weekend at Suzuka. Sebastian Vettel takes third position ahead of the Ferrari of Fernando Alonso and his teammate Mark Webber.

At the end of a session entirely contested in the rain, Michael Schumacher set the fastest time ahead of Sebastian Vettel and the Force India drivers. Making his Grand Prix debut with Toro Rosso, for these sole Friday morning practice sessions, Jean-Eric Vergne was thus unable to showcase his skills on a track made tricky by the rain.

Sergio Pérez revealed today that he played a trick on the Sauber team on Sunday during the Japanese Grand Prix. The Mexican driver, who had started 17th, finally finished 8th in the race, allowing the Swiss team to score significant points in its battle with Force India. But as the checkered flag approached, Pérez announced over the radio that the problem he had been suffering from for several laps was worsening, and as a result, he was forced to slow down.
